(quick update - I got my information mixed up. My apologies. Here is the correct info for our upcoming Advanced Open Water Course

In the last year, we've had 3 Open Water Courses that filled with new students very quickly.

Because of the interest generated by our new students / members, we will be offering an Advanced Open Water Course this coming June 30th and July 1st (2018)

Prerequisites:
To take this course, you must be:
A PADI Open Water Diver (or PADI Junior Open Water Diver)

Benefits:
  • Learn how to think like a diver.
  • Shallow shipwreck exploration.
  • Learn how to navigate underwater using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.
  • Fun night diving experience at the same shallow wreck site.
  • How to better use your dive computer and electronic Recreational Dive Planner (eRDPml)
  • Feel the thrill of moving in a safe current without the effort of kicking.
  • Experience light, colour and physical effects of deeper scuba diving.

This is a course you can go into immediately after your PADI Open Water Diver course.

The PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course helps you increase your confidence and build upon your scuba skills so you can become even more comfortable in the water. You will be able to increase your diving depth from 18 meters (60 feet) to 30 meters (100 feet).

This is a great way to get more dives under your belt while continuing to learn under the supervision of your Ajax Scuba Club/PADI certified Instructor. This course builds on what you’ve learned and develops new capabilities by introducing you to new activities and more ways to have fun scuba diving.

You’ll hone your skills by completing five adventure dives that introduce you to:
  1. Deep water diving (18-30 metres/ 60-100 feet)
  2. Underwater navigation
  3. Wreck dive
  4. Drift dive
  5. Night dive
The Scuba Gear You Use:
Club members taking the course will get a FREE rental of BCD, regulator/gauge set, dive flag and two tanks. (The student is responsible for air fill costs between days 1 & 2)

Student must bring:
mask, fins & snorkel, 7mm full wetsuit, including gloves, hood & boots, plus dive light.

This is a 2 part course
  1. Knowledge Development. This is completed through eLearning online. Students can complete this at their leisure from home even before diving.
  2. Fun and Adventure diving (Five 5 different Adventure dives conducted over 2 days).
Instructor:
Adrian Van Vroenhoven
(PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer)

Well. It's Spring..

Kinda (choose a season, please, Mother Nature.)

And what does that mean ?

Time to clean up that basement / garage / storage unit !!

You may be asking: "How does this affect me as a Scuba Diving Enthusiast ? All my gear has a place, and there is a place for all my gear.. Kinda. Guess I don't need the 300lbs worth of weights I picked up on various dives. But I'd like to pick up a new pair of heel straps for my fins."

This coming April, it doesn't matter if you're in the market to sell or buy gear.  There is an event that may suit your needs -  Ontario Underwater Explorers’ 25th Annual Scuba Swap and Sale

Where:
Rameses Shriners Hall
124 Queen's Plate Drive
Etobicoke, ON M9W 7K4

As any hobbyist (new or experienced) knows, that without the support of local stores, teamed with knowledgeable staff, it's near impossible to learn and grow a new interest.

Sure.  We have Google, and Wiki is a great source of information.  But nothing beats being able to handle new product and learn more about it from people that share your same interests.

The Ajax Scuba Club is lucky enough to have 2 great local shops that support our new Students and existing members; as well our events.

Just in time for our Open Water Course starting Feb/06/2017, Dive Source (located in Oshawa) has sent us their New Year Student Snorkeling Packages.  2 sets, great for new Students.

The A.S.C. thanks Dive Source for this opportunity, and all their assistance.
